1. Scope of copyright

The editorial content on Football Insider (footballinsider.store) — including article text, headlines, original analysis, original illustration, original photography where applicable, original code (Site backend, plugins like FI Quality Booster, automation scripts), and the structural arrangement of the Site — is © Football Insider 2024-2026. All rights reserved unless otherwise noted.

This copyright is asserted under:

  • Italian copyright law L. 633/1941 (Legge sul diritto d’autore) and subsequent amendments, including transposition of EU Directive 2019/790.
  • EU Directive 2001/29/EC (Information Society Directive).
  • U.S. Copyright Act (Title 17 of the U.S. Code).
  • UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
  • Equivalent rights of authorship in other jurisdictions.

2. Third-party content on the Site

Some content on the Site remains the property of third parties:

  • Football club marks, badges, kit designs, and colors — property of the respective clubs.
  • League and federation marks (Serie A logo, Premier League logo, UEFA marks, FIFA marks, FIGC marks) — property of the respective organizations.
  • Photography of matches, players, and football events — property of the photographer or the wire service that licenses the photograph; used on the Site under license or under editorial fair-use frameworks.
  • Embedded video clips from official sources — hosted by the source platform (broadcaster, club, league); we embed under the source platform’s framework and do not host the underlying media on Site infrastructure.
  • Statistical data — property of the data provider (FBref, Opta, etc.); used with attribution under the relevant licensing or under the editorial-citation exception.
  • Quoted text from other publications — brief quotations under fair use / fair dealing / editorial-quotation frameworks; substantial reproduction is not used.
  • WordPress core, theme, and third-party plugins — subject to their respective licenses (typically GPL).

3. AI training expressly prohibited

Use of any content on Football Insider for the training, fine-tuning, evaluation, benchmarking, or other development of artificial-intelligence systems, machine-learning models, or large language models is expressly prohibited.

This prohibition is asserted as an explicit reservation of rights under:

  • EU Directive 2019/790, Article 4(3) — the text-and-data-mining exception applies “on condition that the use of works and other subject matter referred to in that paragraph has not been expressly reserved by their rightholders”. The reservation of rights is exercised expressly through this notice. Italian implementation: D.Lgs. 177/2021, Art. 102-quater.
  • U.S. Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 106, in respect of the exclusive rights of reproduction, derivative works, distribution, public performance, and public display.
  • Italian copyright law L. 633/1941, including the moral rights of the author and the economic-rights framework.
  • Equivalent rights in other jurisdictions.

The prohibition applies to:

  • Crawling the Site for the purpose of producing training corpora.
  • Including Site content in training datasets distributed under any framework (open-source, research, commercial).
  • Using Site content to fine-tune existing models or to evaluate model performance.
  • Using Site content as part of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines that copy content into AI infrastructure.
  • Using Site content for any other AI / ML / LLM development purpose.

Technical implementation

The prohibition is implemented technically through robots.txt directives blocking known AI crawlers, including (without limitation):

  • GPTBot (OpenAI training crawler)
  • ChatGPT-User (OpenAI ChatGPT browsing)
  • ClaudeBot and anthropic-ai (Anthropic crawlers)
  • CCBot (Common Crawl)
  • Google-Extended (Google AI training opt-out signal)
  • Bytespider (ByteDance / TikTok)
  • FacebookBot (Meta)
  • Amazonbot (Amazon)
  • PerplexityBot (Perplexity)
  • Diffbot and equivalent commercial-crawl operators

The list is not exhaustive; the prohibition is asserted against all AI training crawlers, named or not. New crawlers are added to the block list as they are identified.

Why AI training opt-out matters specifically for football journalism

Football journalism is labor-intensive editorial work. The articles on this Site represent original analysis, source-verification work, statistical interpretation, and editorial judgment that has economic value to the Site as a publishing operation. AI training that ingests this content without permission appropriates the economic value of the editorial work. The opt-out is the explicit refusal of that appropriation. The opt-out applies regardless of whether the AI developer claims fair-use / TDM-exception coverage; the explicit reservation of rights overrides the default exception.

4. Permitted uses (fair use / fair dealing / editorial-quotation framework)

The following uses of Site content are permitted without specific permission, subject to the conditions described:

  • Brief quotation (typically up to 2-3 sentences or a paragraph) for editorial commentary, news reporting, or critical review, with attribution and a link back to the original article.
  • Reference to articles in linkable form (URL citation) for any purpose.
  • Sharing articles in their original form on social media with the original byline and source attribution preserved.
  • Personal use — reading, saving for personal reference, printing for non-commercial personal use.
  • Educational and academic use consistent with applicable fair-use / fair-dealing / educational-exception frameworks.

5. Uses requiring permission

The following require written permission:

  • Reproduction of substantial portions of articles (more than brief quotation).
  • Republication of full articles on other publications, aggregator sites, or any other channel.
  • Translation of articles for republication.
  • Use of Site content in commercial publications, books, or media products.
  • Bulk scraping or systematic content extraction.
  • Any AI / ML / LLM training use (per Section 3 — expressly prohibited even with permission requests, except where the requester demonstrates compliance with rightsholder-protective frameworks satisfactory to Football Insider).

6. Copyright takedown

If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, the takedown procedure is on DMCA. Designated agent: dmca [at] footballinsider [punto] store.

7. Updates

This Copyright Notice is reviewed periodically and updated as the regulatory framework evolves (particularly around AI / ML / LLM uses), as new crawler identifiers emerge, and as our editorial scope changes. Material changes are reflected in the “Last updated” date.
