Ascoli and Catania have punched their tickets to the next round of the Serie C playoffs with a crucial draw in their tie. The Italian second division’s playoff drama unfolded on Wednesday, with Brescia and Salernitana also taking a significant step towards qualification.

The return leg between Ascoli and Catania ended 1-1, with the visitors, Catania, securing a vital away goal. This result secured their spot in the next round, where they will face Potenza.

Ascoli’s Filippo Andriani opened the scoring in the 25th minute, but Catania’s Alessandro Capello equalized just before halftime. The visitors, Catania, had several chances to take the lead but were unable to find the net.

According to AS, Catania coach, Fabio Grosso, expressed his satisfaction with the result, saying, “We knew it would be a tough game, but we managed to get a crucial draw.”

Reaction

Ascoli coach, Alberto Bollini, was disappointed with the result, stating, “We had our chances, but we couldn’t capitalize on them.”

The draw has significant implications for both teams, as it secures Catania’s spot in the next round and puts Ascoli’s qualification hopes in jeopardy.

Brescia and Salernitana, meanwhile, took a significant lead in their respective ties. Brescia defeated Lecco 2-0, with goals from midfielder, Mirco Antenucci, in the 30th minute, and striker, Andrea Cossu, in the 65th minute. Salernitana beat Potenza 2-1, with goals from midfielder, Salvatore Molinaro, in the 40th minute, and striker, Danilo Soddimo, in the 80th minute.
